sketching
These are ten of my best sketches made during the Fall 2014 semester. I try to mimic as realistic perspective of the objects through proper shading, perspective, orientation, and other sketching techniques I learned throughout my DIY course.
Sponge Grip
The Sponge Grip is a cheap, efficient, and easy to make version of a dashboard car mount. I wanted to develop a product that could be made by anybody with basic household appliances. The dashboard car mount is made out of two materials: a sponge and rug pad. The sponge is easy to cut with a knife and when cut properly can snugly hold the phone. The rug pad glued to the bottom adds enough friction to the device so that it doesn't slide along the dashboard.
Clay mouse
With a focus on the manufacturing process, the Clay Mouse tested our abilities to develop a foam core carve a clay structure around it. I filled a box with foam core and then carved the foam to the rough outline shape of a computer mouse. Secondly, I heated up clay, cut strips, and lined the foam core with it. Then I began detailing the clay in order to get it to look as close to the computer mouse as possible.
shotsicle
This project tested our abilities to develop an injection mold in order to get a silicon rubber product. Our group decided to go develop an ice shot glass mold, which is an ice tray that forms ice cubes in the shape of a shot glass. We designed the two part mold for our product on Solidworks, made the liquefied silicon rubber, poured it into our mold, and waited for it to dry into our final product.
Eye Vail
The Eye Vail is a redesign of the traditional laboratory goggles with an emphasis on aesthetics and reduction of bulk. Three of the most common reasons for people not wearing the proper safety goggles in a lab are that they find them to be ugly, bulky, and uncomfortable. The Eye Vail's design is based off of ski goggles, which are much more slender in order to enhance aerodynamics, and also have a larger emphasis on style for marketing. Using this design as our muse, additions were made such as ventilation to prevent fogging and a removable strap component so people can place them on their heads without messing up their hair.
Pizza Prime
Pizza Prime is a new type a pizza box that has the capabilities of being disassembled into smaller pizza boxes and cardboard plates. This next-generation pizza box is designed to ease the frustration of finding room in your already stuffed refrigerator for such a large container. Each pizza box can be broken down into 8 total plates and 3 total boxes with 25% of the original footprint.
EZ Clip
The EZ Clip provides a simple way to hold papers with a similar adhesive convenience of a sticky note. The metal balls inside hold the paper tight enough to prevent them from falling, but gentle enough to easily remove them. The total force of the magnets prevent the EZ Clip from moving during paper addition and removal. They also allow the EZ Clip to be placed on any magnetic surface.
Minimalist mug
Presenting
the lightest and most durable coffee cup holder yet, the Minimalist Mug. The Minimalist Mug
is our lightest coffee jacket yet, and its sleek curves increase its durability
to survive the rigors of hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities. This one part system is easy to use, as you
just slide the coffee cup into the minimalist mug. The added thru hole in the design allows it
to be easily attached to a backpack with string, bungee cord, or other
fastener.
Rip, slip, & grip splash guard
Tired of having to slowly crawl from place to place because you don’t want your boiling hot coffee to pour over the rim of your glass and spill on your hand? We are too! That is was Coffee Creations has developed the the Rip, Slip, & Grip Splash Guard. This product protects your hand from the heat of the cup similar to a traditional coffee jacket, but has been upgraded to also have a conical reservoir. The funnel corrals and absorbs any small spills, saving your hand from burns and your cup holders from stains!
